Paul Hammond just can't stop catching at the moment, having just bagged a stunning winter brace before the new year's hardly had a chance to get going! Paul explained 'With me not due back at work until Tuesday, I managed to sneak my first night session of the year in. I arrived at the lake yesterday morning and having seen nothing initially I got setup in the swim that has been most productive for me so far on my winter campaign. By mid morning both rods were fishing and I had seen one show smack bang between the too spots I was fishing, however this was to signal the end of all carpy activity for the rest of the day. Darkness fell and I wasn't happy with how things were panning out. The swim had been throwing most its fish up for me at dusk and this time had well and truly gone! Come 8pm and a move was on the cards after abit of a wander and a mooch...by 9pm I'd got two Scuds in amongst a group of decent fish, one on a choddy and the other on my ever faithful popup rig with a small bag of broken Bacteria B1s...My lines were slack and all I could do was wait!. 3 hours later and the bobbins sat on th floor motionless...I checked the spots at midnight and the fish were still there but not looking all too interested...I was hoping that the little bit of rain that we'd had would encourage them to drop their heads and pick up one of the single hookbaits!...I decided to try and help them on there way with a dozen or so Bacteria B1s broken in half and spread about the general area and then crawled back under the brolly and retired to my warm sleeping bag with a brew, with no doubt that at some point they would feed at least only for a short period! I was just starting to doze when I had a single bleep on my left hand rod which had me up out of bed, pulling my wellies on and checking the rod...All seemed fine so I crawled back into bed!. Not for long however, as at about 1am the left hand rod happily rattled off and I was in to a fish...The fish kindly kited left away from the area and hopefully the other fish...She plodded about in front of me before stoke-gaz slipped the net under a dark, lean upper double...Happy Days...
